Abstract
Washing hand with soap is a hygienic behavior that can prevent infectious diseases such as diarrhea. To reduce infectious diseases such as diarrhea it can be avoided by washing hands with soap. The research objective was to determine the effectiveness of the application of video modeling methods and demonstration methods on the ability to wash hands in preschool children. The type of research used is Quasi Experiment with theapproach Two Group Without pretest and posttest Control Group Design. The samples used in this study was taken by simple random sampling. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using SPSS computerization with Wilcoxontests and Mann-Whitney. The results of the study showed the average ability of hand washing before the provision of video modeling methods (2.60) and after (4.80), the average ability of hand washing before the demonstration method (2.80) and after (7.10), in the bivariate analysis of differences. washing hands before by giving video modeling method p value = 0.007, and the difference in hand washing before and after giving the demonstration method p value = 0.004, while the difference in the effectiveness of the application of the video modeling method and the demonstration method p value = 0.001 (p≤0.005). It can be concluded that there are differences in the effectiveness of the application of video modeling methods and demonstration methods for the ability to wash hands. It is expected that this research can increase knowledge for nursing science and can be continued in providing information and introduction to nursing science, especially the introduction of hand washing in preschool children.
